New ICT Innovations for Teaching

The relentless march of ICT technology innovation continues relentlessly and, of course, so the means of exploiting new technology for teaching and learning.  Making the most of new technology does mean having to trawl through the huge number of vendors out there and their range of makes and models.  This can be time consuming particularly if you want to evaluate new products before committing to an investment.  The following examples of recent products introduced to the market may help in your search though.

SMART Table 230i – Multi touch table for Primary Schools

SMART, the leading manufacturers of interactive whiteboard, have been the first to launch a multi-user, multi-touch table developed specifically with primary schools in mind, the SMART 230i.  With a 27” display up to six children can use it at once and develop discussion and consensus building through fun, educational games.  The Smart Table 230i comes with a selection of integrated software applications and teachers can develop their own applications easily.  Cleverly, the SMART 230i table also features gesture recognition as well as audio for making each activity fully engaging for young children to get absorbed into.  As new ICT innovations for teaching go this is not cheap kit but, where budgets allow, this is an exciting new means of teaching.

Stylish All-in-One Eco PC

If space is at a premium in your school’s ICT Suite then the new ACER Z280G all-in-one eco PC could be a great option although, frankly, even if you have loads of space this is still going to look great.  This very neat PC solution includes an 18.5” TFT screen, an Intel® Atom powered PC, DVD R/W and comes complete with a keyboard and mouse.  As well as saving on the desk footprint, your eco footprint will reduce with very low power consumption from the Intel® Atom processor and with virtually silent running, the working environment gets better too.  The standard specification is plenty good enough for now and into the future with 2GB of RAM, 160GB HDD, DVD R/W, Intel® GMA 950 graphics card, card reader, gigabit Ethernet and even b/g/n WiFi.  Prices are to be confirmed but this model is likely to be a very affordable new ICT innovation for teaching that’ll also make your ICT Suite look great.

Interactive Whiteboard Without the Need for a Board?

Due for release later this year, Epson have announced their new ultra short throw EB-450wi and EB-460i range of projectors which can turn any suitable projection area into a fully interactive whiteboard with piece of technology.  These new generation ultra short throw projectors offer many advantages over the older ceiling mounted systems with virtually no shadow or glare, lower installation costs with no board to fit or expensive mounting kits, built-in 10W speaker, projection up to 70” from only 16cm distance, 3LCD technology for high quality display and a three year de-install/re-install hardware and lamp warranty.  This new innovation for teaching will find favour with teaches and administrators alike with an optional wireless module really means you could put the Epson EB-450wi or Epson EB-460i almost anywhere in your school with ease.  Currently under evaluation by SchoolCare, we’ll be bringing you more information of this very exciting move in projector technology soon.

Stylish Design and Affordable Laptop Storage Trolleys

Not so new, but still an innovative ICT solution to laptop and netbook storage trolleys for education, the Monarch LapCabby range is a stylish range with great features.  The first thing you’ll notice about the LapCabby range of storage trolleys is the striking design; the bright colours and rounded corners looks very modern and the recessed door handles, separate AV adaptor compartment, all makes for a safe design too.  Access is made easier with sliding shelves to either vertical or horizontal storage and the Power7 timer system should keep energy consumption down.  The LapCabby range includes a variety of size options including a 16H (horizontal storage), 32H, 10V (vertical storage), 16V and 20V.  Netbooks are catered for with the LapCabbyMini range including the 20V and 32V models.
